Getting there, and where to sleep
Harnaby Mill, Little Harnaby, Wiltshire, SN12 0RT. Ten minutes from Chippenham by car, and further than it looks on foot.
By train
Chippenham is the station, about seventy minutes from London Paddington and twenty from Bath Spa. Taxis do not wait at the rank on Saturdays, so book one: Harn Cars on 01632 960 618, or Blackwell's on 01632 960 337. Twelve minutes, roughly fifteen pounds.
The last train back leaves before the band finishes. If you are relying on it, plan to leave at half past eleven — or stay, which is better.
By car
Leave the A350 at the Little Harnaby turn and follow the lane past the pond. Parking is in the field beyond the mill and it is free; if it has rained hard, park on the hardstanding by the barn instead. Cars can be left overnight and collected before eleven on Sunday.
Where to stay
- The Harnaby Arms
- Six rooms above the pub, four minutes' walk from the yard. Hold under "Quayle/Renshaw" until the first of April. 01632 960 145.
- Fern House
- A bed and breakfast on the Chippenham road, three rooms, family-run and used to wedding guests arriving late. 01632 960 289.
- The Bell, Chippenham
- Thirty-one rooms in town, the easiest option if you are coming by train and leaving by train. 01632 960 470.
- The shepherd's huts
- Four in the top field, bookable through the mill. Cold in June at four in the morning, and worth it anyway.
Getting home
We have asked both taxi firms to hold cars from midnight. Put one of the numbers above in your phone now — the signal in the valley is one bar on a good day, and the mill's wifi is called harnaby-guest.
Anything else, ring Nell Quayle on 01632 960 604.
